Introduction to the KeyDrive Product Family

The KeyDrive II Family of products are a series of advanced disk encryption and access control tools designed to provide both mobile and static users with highly secure yet completely useable security for the information stored on their notebook or desktop computers.

The design brief for the KeyDrive II Family was to use two-factor security to authenticate users before access is granted to their information. In addition to this extra strength KeyDrive II is very easy to use, both for the end-user and for the security administrators responsible for rolling out KeyDrive II Pro to their users.

Security systems should work with the user - not against them. - KeyDrive II has been designed to be extremely simple to use.

Many methods of securing confidential information have surfaced over the last few years but most, if not all, become more difficult to use and implement as the levels of security required get higher and higher. The design goal of the KeyDrive Advanced Encryption System is to offer very high levels of security and encryption but with an ease of use that would make the implementation of the security system painless.

To achieve this goal KeyDrive implements hardware based authentication using a device policy and a personal administration program.

By only allowing the authenticated user access to the encryption and decryption capabilities of KeyDrive it is not possible for any third party not in possession of the valid authentication device to gain unauthorized access to the secured information.

KeyDrive manages all access to the encryption and decryption capabilities via the authentication device. A user must be in possession of the authentication device and have been properly authenticated to the device by supplying a user PIN number established by the user during the initial administration set-up.

Without a valid key and proper authentication it is not possible to access the information protected by KeyDrive.

The KeyDrive Advanced Encryption System consists of three discrete elements…

  • A solid-state authentication device, which securely stores the user’s access control information and location details of the encrypted data.
  •
  • A software client which resides on the user’s PC or notebook and which cannot be activated unless a valid authentication device is in place and the user has properly authenticated to the device.
  •
  • A simple Administrator routine, which allows the user to personalize his or her options into the authentication device. In the case of KeyDrive II Pro, this is a centrally located utility. In other cases, it is integral to the client software.

The KeyDrive Product Family

The KeyDrive Product Family will consist of three products: -

KeyDrive Solo is an entry level, single user, two-factor, real-time encryption product which creates an encrypted virtual drive on a PC or laptop, access controlled by way of a personalised USB device. The maximum secure volume available is 2 GB. It incorporates lost device and PIN recovery routines. It retails in the region of GB£50/US$80 per license.

KeyDrive II is a single user, two-factor, real-time encryption product which creates an encrypted virtual drive on a PC or laptop, access controlled by way of a personalised USB device. The maximum secure volume available is 10 GB. It incorporates lost device and PIN recovery routines. It also incorporates an advanced desktop security option with four settings including secure screen lockdown and authenticated Windows Logon. It also incorporates a number of advanced drive management tools including secure backup & restore, drive resizing and relocation, disk and page file cleaning, integrated support and customisation potential. It retails in the region of GB£75/US$120 per license.

KeyDrive II Professional, is a network enabled two-factor, real-time encryption product which creates an encrypted virtual drive on a PC or laptop, access controlled by way of a personalised USB device. The maximum secure volume available is 2 TB. It also incorporates an advanced desktop security option with four settings including secure screen lockdown and authenticated Windows Logon and the disk management utilities also included in KeyDrive II.

It uses a central Administration Utility to pre-configure client builds and has extensive ‘intelligent’ rollout support and progress report capability built in. Lost device and data and PIN recovery routines are also centralised as are extensive powers to customise user access to customisation and disk management features.

It retails in the region of GB£85/US$135 per license. Minimum purchase is a five license set which includes the Administration Utility.
